Thomas More's "Utopia"

The idea of a "utopia" was created by English writer Thomas More in 1516. He conceived of a society that was harmonious, just, and overall featured ideal human behavior. The word utopia comes from the Greek words for "not" and "place" (utopia meant nowhere).

Contrary to popular belief, linguistically, utopia does mean "good place," although it took on this meaning about a century after More's book.
